Heroes Book Two

Young mechanic Andrew Campbell’s life couldn’t be better. He is about to restore a Ford Mustang with his dad before heading off on the ultimate cross-country road trip with his best friend, Tanner McKenzie.

But tragedy strikes, and Andrew’s life is shattered. Worried his family will be torn apart if he doesn’t step in, Andrew makes a tough choice between following his heart and doing what he needs to do to protect his little brother.

When Andrew pushes Tanner away, Tanner heads off on the planned trip alone. Once Tanner leaves town, his life takes a different path, and it’s ten years before he returns. Now a firefighter, he’s never forgotten his first love, and no one has ever taken Andrew’s place in his heart. He’s determined to see if Andrew feels the same way. He just hopes Andrew’s excited to see him, hopes that he’s available—and finally out—after all this time.

They might not have been ready to deal with emerging feelings years ago, but now might be the time for their second chance at love.

Andrew Promise Heroes Book 2 edition by Nic Starr Literature Fiction eBooks

Andrew was barely in his twenties when he had to shoulder the big responsibility raising his young brother after their father had died suddenly. This makes havoc in his plans for the future. He had planned the big trip with his friend Tanner. Then the tragedy strikes and Andrew struggles to find his way. A well-meant remark from an outsider makes Andrew to push away Tanner.

Tanner left and forged his life away from home town and Andrew. Now he is back, wondering about the spark that was there ten years ago, if it could ignite a flame.

The book is divided into two parts - the past and the present time - it worked for me. It explained lots of things and painted different picture of Andrew than I had after the first book.

I enjoyed the first book, therefore I had to read this one, too. It was nice, although I found the first a bit better. And I am going to read the next one - there has to be one since this one ended the way it did.

What if you meet your true love at the wrong time in his life? What if fate gives you both a second chance?

I fell in love with these two from the first couple of chapters. Their story is sweet and yet life has a way of complicating things. This story could have gone a whole different direction if the tragedy hadn’t occurred. But it does and it felt real.

I was a little concerned about witnessing the tragedy that the blurb alludes to. The author gives the readers a chance to get to know all the parties involved and it really made it that much more personal when it happened. Still, I could see why she did it that way. I needed to see how carefree Andrew, his brother Josh, and Tanner were before to appreciate how they changed in the ten years in between. Also, it was nice to see Andrew and Tanner as friends, only just becoming aware of each other before they reunite. That conversation and the scenes before Tanner leaves on the trip, though. Tissue alert!

I felt for Andrew. Sure he was already twenty-one when he becomes responsible for his kid brother but the amount stress and the mounting “what if’s?” are enough to break just about anyone. I know he hurt Tanner initially and I was hoping that their reunion would be one where Tanner came to understand and forgive him. Tanner grows up a lot when he hits the road. I liked the direction he took his life and how it molded him from a young adult to a man.

The first half of the story is from Andrew’s POV but it’s not a first person POV. I was glad. The second half picked up from Tanner’s POV before switching back to Andrew. It’s very defined and wasn’t an issue in knowing who was speaking. No head hopping involved. The story runs a little long in some places or maybe I was just so anxious to get them to their HEA that parts simply felt unnecessary. It’s one of those stories I’d read again to be sure I didn’t miss important stuff.

The way Ms. Starr describes Tanner’s nervousness about seeing Andrew after ten years, it was so detailed, I was nervous right along with him. I don’t want to give away too much but I’ll say it wasn’t the homecoming Tanner expected but that doesn’t mean it was bad, either.

There’s a lovely little tease at the end of this story that totally has me hooked and wanting to see what happens in the next book. Surely, there’ll be a next book. There actually is a book prior to this one, Charlie’s Hero, but I didn’t realize it until little details about Josh and Charlie started fitting together.

Readers who want a whole heart true romance should pick up this book. Andrew and Tanner both are full of personality and once they’re both off the leash to love each other, it’s just beautiful to watch. Well worth the read and an easy recommend.

This book goes back to the time prior to events in Charlie's Hero, back to before Josh and Andrew's father died and left Andrew the man of the house. I start with this because it was this tragic event that was a catalyst for not only the way Josh was in book 1, but it explains so much more about Andrew and his relationship with his brother.

When Andrew and Josh's dad died, custody of a then sixteen year old Josh went to Andrew, who immediately put his life on hold. Nothing mattered but raising his little brother. A trip had been in the works with his best friend Tanner as soon as they graduated, but now, Andrew can't leave Josh, he has to be a father figure, the man of the house. While all this is going on, Andrew starts to realize that his feelings for Tanner have shifted somewhere along the way. He's very confused by his attraction to Tanner and subsequent jealousy when another guy approaches Tanner. Still, Andrew remains focused on Josh and sends Tanner off on their planned trip alone. He admits his feelings first, which only make it that much harder for Tanner.

Ten years later Tanner moves back to town. He never got over his first true love, his best friend Andrew. And Andrew never forgot about him either. A comment someone made in passing a decade prior set events in motion, and this is how it played out. Can a decades old friendship rebuild the trust between these two men that are still obviously in love with each other?

With the ending in book one I had to read this book, like immediately, so I did. It was nice to have some blanks filled and and some unanswered questions resolved. I loved the relationship between Tanner and Andrew, the way it slowly grew. I mean, they knew they loved each other, that wasn't the problem. The story was very well written. The right amount of angst and insecurity, emotional highs and lows, everything was balanced out from start to finish. The story flowed well as well, I devoured it in one setting. Once you read that first page, you'll be hooked, I'm certain.

A must read for anyone that likes stories where the MC's lose their way, but eventually find their way back to each other. Sort of a hard sought HEA.
A great followup to "Charlie's Hero". I loved every word of this book. High 5 to Nick Starr
This is Book 2 of this series. I haven't read the first book yet -- and felt that this book was complete without having read it.
Before reading this book, prepare yourself to become emotionally involved!
This was a really good book. It continued with . Andrew's story. It was great to see characters from the last book again in this book. The storytelling was really good. I loved the characters. Looking forward to book number three which I'm guessing will be Patrick's book.
