Lincoln Master of Men; a Study in Character Alonzo Rothschild 9781117633626 Books
This book was written in 1906 so is a little difficult to read. But well worth it. In 1906 there were still people alive who remembered Lincoln so the author had eyewitness accounts to draw from. There is a lot of detail about some members of Lincoln's cabinet which was very interesting. There is very little about Lincoln's personal life. This concentrates on Lincoln's political life.Product details

Lincoln Master of Men; a Study in Character Alonzo Rothschild 9781117633626 Books Reviews
Anyone who has read Doris Kearns Goodwin's TEAM OF RIVALS (an excellent book) would get double the understanding of Lincoln's intelligence, patience, ability to read characters of people, skills in dealing directly with enemies in his "team", REAL understanding of politics and long term planning; etc. etc.
I read this book because I had previously read the book IKE'S BULF as part of my reading the several "Cold War and Civil Rights" books. At the end, the author said that "Lincoln, Master of Men" was Eisenhower's hero in leadership during the war, and he often read Rothschild's book. (published in 1915 but available on .)
Great service, highly recommend
Horrible print
Can not read it
Good book
Many people have written about A Lincoln but this is the best study of the man I have ever read. I have no doubt many current historians have "borrowed" from this book for theirs. It was written within 50 years of Lincolns death so people alive at that time had some memory of the events surrounding and encompassing his presidency.
In a day in which all of us are desperately seeking for answers to complex political, social and economic issues, Rothschild's 1906 work of cream rises to the top. AR presents Lincoln as a man's man, a backwoods, tree chopping, rail splitting, wrestling and fighting Champion of men. At times while reading I wondered, "this is too good to be true. No one was or is this good of a human being". Then, AR reveals some small tidbit or fact which tips the scales back towards thinking "well, maybe Lincoln was the master of men". The chapters are a bit long, and the kindle edition I purchased was a bit choppy. Look beyond those small inconveniences and read it.
