I wish Chryse Wymer had already written hundreds of books, so I would always be guaranteed something amazing to read. The characters in Constant Carl are unique, interesting, and realistic and have stayed with me although I finished the book several days ago. Even when Rose, the main character, is being difficult, I want to keep reading to see what she does next or find out what happens to her. Henry, her love interest, carries enough baggage and is conflicted enough that I feel like I've met him. It was fun and scary climbing inside the mind of the obsessed character, Carl. His obsessive and psychotic episodes were utterly convincing. I always enjoy reading an author like this, who writes passages or dialogue that are full of insight, and make me stop and think about the wisdom behind the words. The author's prose is beautiful, reminding me of Anne Tyler, where I am often led by the poetry of the language. I found it an enjoyable story--unpredictable, suspenseful, and edgy--definitely not a cozy romance.Product details
