Ruth Bonded Ruth Gron Book 1 eBook VC Lancaster

I read Ruth's Bonded for free via Kindle Unlimited. When I finished, I immediately purchased the book for my kindle library. It's that good.
Lancaster does an excellent job creating a suspenseful and claustrophobic atmosphere in which two disparate characters, with very different narrative voices, fall in unlikely love. What's extra impressive is that the author makes their emotional/physical connection believable even though Ruth and Gron are never able to communicate using language--for the entire book. But don't let that detail scare you off--the characterizations are so vivid and the plot so gripping that I had to finish the story in one night.

Gron is an alien, but through his eyes, we realize that Ruth is too. Gron's background is fascinating--he's this hulking, immensely powerful, caveman-monkey alien, but he comes from a formally hierarchical culture in which males are submissive to females. He's so strong but so vulnerable to Ruth. He's a very intriguing and sexy paradox. No wonder Ruth falls hard for him, tail and all.
Ruth is a strong, smart, kind heroine. She's able to roll with the punches and adapt, but she's also believably wigged out by her situation and (at first) by Gron. There's no insta-love or lust (such boring plot devices), but that made her feelings for Gron more realistic.

Ruth is great, but Gron's the star. If you ever wished that somehow sweet, uber-protective King Kong could win Ann Darrow, that you're going to love Ruth's Bonded. I highly recommend this story and eagerly await the sequel.

Ruth Bonded Ruth Gron Book 1 eBook VC Lancaster Reviews

I love romance books. But boy, some of them get old. I am sick of historical, not a fan of MC, tired of Billionaire playboys... so when this cover caught my eye, I gave it a good look. The word Bonded in the title was a good hook for me too. (Left over from my love of dragon lore and bonding, but don't get confused; this book has nothing about dragons, just saying to all authors who need titles; the word bonded was a good idea here) And a book about an alien? YEP. MOVE OVER DUKES, BAD BOYS, AND SHEIKS. It's time for great alien romances.
Nope, never thought I'd say that. But with a book like this, I am so for it!

This isn't Insta Love like some paranormal books.
I LIKED THAT.
This isn't narrated by a Too Stupid To Live heroine. In fact, SHE HAS NO TSTL moments! OH I LOVE THAT! I REALLY LOVED THAT! I liked her. The author wrote her so well you can relate without any issues.
Alien POV. I really LOVED Gron. More Gron please. Really need Book 2.
Different Customs. Reeeallly different customs/social structure... FASCINATING. I should have said that with more exclamation. FASCINATING!!!!! I was positively enthralled through the whole book. If you're going to write fantasy, go big and VC Lancaster pulled this off in spades.
A Sweet Hero. Sometimes you love the bad boys. There are a lot of really good bad boys. But sometimes, you want a sweet guy. And Gron was sweet. If he walked out of the book, you wouldn't even care that he was furry. You might make him shave a bit, but you'd keep him anyway.
I loved how they began; where he is afraid of her. The idea of a queen and his fear of breaking law, and angering her mates; I just loved it. If you enjoy the sample, you'll enjoy the rest of it just as much.

This was a fast, engrossing, very enjoyable read. I laughed, I was touched, I had places I bookmarked. I will reread in the future. It was worth the price.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE This WAS NOT a cliffhanger --- I almost did not buy this book, because of the reviews stating it cliffhanged. But as someone else put it, it's more like a "cliff edge" - the story ends H/h being together. You could walk away knowing they are happy. But there is a book two coming. The author gives a blurb about it, and has posted the first three chapters on her blog, to the delight of her new slavering fans.
This is DEFINITELY an author to watch.
I can't wait for book two!
I have always loved survival stories. Imagine waking up on another planet and having to survive. This author does a great job with this topic. She also knows how to inflect humor and keeps you laughing. My main problem with this series is the description of the men. I am a visual person--once I read too much of a man being so hairy his body looks like a pelt; or an author keeps mentioning so much sweat that the skin is oily ; thick foreheads, broad mouths and front teeth that look like molars...well, for me, I am no longer invested in the romance part of the story. The decriptions are all a bit too "yuck" for me. I mean, these men on this alien planet must really be so smelly and dirty because tthe author keeps having the heroines bathing them. There are so many scenes, it seems, of the earth women really getting in there and scrubbing those men with soaps and shampoos....The men just don't seem attractive. Too bad, because if they were described as the alpha hunks you want to read about, I'd enjoy the story so much more. Another point that I must mention is the communication problem. How can a sophisticated woman, who is used to every modern comfort--shopping, groceries, modern medicine, movies, cars and planes, books and newspapers--computers and cell phones!!_- ever adapt and choose to live on such a backward, primitive planet?? For "love"?? To a male she cannot even communicate with but on a basic level? It just doesn't make sense and is not believable. If the two main characters would be able to talk with each other, share their hopes and dreams, their emotions...but they don't and can't. They communicate with hand gestures and facial expressions. I am still giving this book a four star rating because the author is a talented story teller--I just don't agree with everything she writes about. The stories leave me feeling doubtful about the romance and therefore I can not really relate to the heroine at all. Personally, I'd rather live in my air conditioned condo, with take out Chinese food, watching a good DVD, than sitting in a tree with a bunch of hairy neanderthals I don't understand, weaving baskets in the humidity.
