This is a fun little story which starts when a dorky guy named Chip finds the journal of Nikola Tesla. He and his friend Pete head off to Tesla's last residence, the New Yorker Hotel, and they end up falling into Tesla's Interdimensional Transfer Apparatus. He then writes a series of emails to his girlfriend, as they zip from one universe to another in their quest to rescue Tesla and save the universe.
Chip's 'not-that-bright' persona is very well portrayed. He often breaks into some death-defying scene with a wry comment..something about Pete's boxer shorts, or a reminiscence about eating doritos with his girlfriend. He uses the F-word about twice per sentence. His conversations with his friend Pete are irreverent, wry and hilarious.
They find out that they can communicate with Tesla through his journal, although they don't actually meet him until about 5/6 of the way through the book. The interplay between the brilliant, dignified old inventor and the foulmouthed Chip is just as entertaining as you might imagine. "Please do not call me a 'dude'," says Tesla, 'I have never vacationed or labored at a ranch..." In fact I wish this book would have given Tesla a larger role and more to say. Because of course, he is the character everyone is interested in.
The book reads quickly and is an entertaining light read, although after awhile I gave up trying to understand what was going on with the Universe-destroying baddie. It was like reading a comic book..."zzzzapp!!! Pow!!!" Chip doesn't claim to be a genius, and this book doesn't claim to be Great Literature. It will not grip your emotions or leave you with memorable insights. Just read it and have fun.

Where the hell is Tesla? Funny you should ask, because the answer to that question is further reaching than even I expected going into this story.
I picked this books up on a whim, because I'm a huge fan of Nikola Tesla's work, and have admired his genius for as long as I can remember.
Even though this story is delivered as a comedy, it's hard not to fall in love with Chip and Pete, the two main characters, or with Julie, who for all we know could be a fiction that keeps Chip sane through everything.
Okay, maybe sane is stretching things a little, but that's what makes this books so special. It takes a very simple premise and runs with what serves as a great read, a tribute to Tesla, and event even episodic stories that so many people have grown up on. Each chapter reads like an episode in an ongoing adventure, while still serving to bring things to a conclusion that could not have come about any other way.
This was a surprisingly fun book, I devoured it, laughing often. The description alone was intriguing, but delving into the story was such utter fun I couldn't put it down. The main characters are endlessly amusing, and surprises happen around ever corner (and there are lot of corners). It revels in the absurd, but how could it not with time-traveling, dimensional-traveling, way too many doors/portals, aliens, and, of course, Nicola Tesla? It's such fun that I hope in a few years I forget about it so I can read it anew.
All the physics with all the fun! A Brief History of Time meets Big Bang Theory meets Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure. Wildly imaginative while still being theoretically accurate, relatively speaking. < This book is for those that found last sentence that amusing.
Bought on Audible (long commute = hundreds of books) where the Author read his own work and was perfectly entertaining.

Funny, interesting, unexpected and a wild ride. Chip and Pete are perfect partners and their travels through the multiverse will keep you rooting for every "next door". Oh - and then there's Tesla!
This ws a totally enjoyable book. It chronicles the adventures of Chip and Pete, two best friends non-achivers who find an interdimensional gateway in the closet of Nikola Tesla's old hotel room in NYC. It leads to a long gray hallway with identical doors. Each door opens into an alternate reality. Of course our heros forget which door is theirs and begin wandering through alternate worlds. Along the way they pick up an alien sidekick/pet they name Bobo, and discover Tesla is alive and being held prisoner by an evil genius type. So it is up to Chip and Pete to rescue Tesla and save the multiverse.

The story is told mostly as a string of emails from Chip to his former girlfriend. Some people might not that format, but it is not too bad once you get used to it. in fact the book flows rather easily. The overall feel is something between Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and the Hitchhiker's Guide series. In fact it probably would have been a great BBC series back in the day.

Not great literature or even great science fiction, but great fun none the less.
I think that as Sci-Fi goes this was more or less average. I have been reading Sci-Fi for some 50 years, and of course have read some of the greats. The idea of the multi-verse is not a new one. It has some salience lately because people are concerned about the end of the world and all of that. I watched a movie on that had a story line similar to this story. Women invents technology. Women uses technology. Brings home an alternate copy of her husband who turn out to be a bad guy and so on. I won't spoil it but as I said it is not a new idea. I read the book in a single sitting because I was reading this guys book about writing your own book and how to sell mucho copies. I wanted to see what he wrote and if it lived up to that criteria in his other book. So, as I see it you can write an average story (for died in the wool sci-fi fans) and achieve some good results (18,000 copies). Was that his best book possible as he suggests you need to write to sell a bezillion copies - eh - I am not so sure. Anyway, I give the book 3 stars because it is average - not Asimov or Clarke and not Sci-Fi trash. Oh yeah, lose the f-ing f-bombs for f sakes. They aren't necessary for the story. You could make the characters interesting in some other way. But you sold lots of books. Congrats on that.
